Nutrition Communications Officer

About the role  

As the Nutrition Communications Officer you will support the daily operation of the Association for Nutrition, providing communications support to the organisation.   

Your duties will include for communications activities (including newsletters, social media and website) and registrant support. As the Nutrition Communications Officer you will be the first point of contact for general queries from registrants, stakeholders and the public about core aspects of AfN work, nutrition careers and support to registrants regarding nutrition regulation and practice queries. You will be responsible for producing registrant and public facing materials, as well as representing AfN at events, providing talks and assisting the Deputy Chief Executive with projects and activities.  

This role is a graduate level role and ideally suited to an ANutr. You will be supported by the Deputy Chief Executive in the application of your nutrition science knowledge and understanding to professional practice, continual professional development and the opportunity to develop your portfolio of evidence for transfer to Registered Nutritionist status.   

Responsible to: Deputy Chief Executive  

Usual hours of work: 21 hours per week, working pattern to be agreed between the post holder and the Deputy Chief Executive. Occasional out of hours working or travel within the UK may be required, for which time off in lieu will be given. 

Contract: Part-time, permanent  

Salary: £27,000 to £29,500 pa pro-rata, depending on experience 

Location:  Remote from any appropriate location in the UK.

Job Description  

Main Duties  

You will need to be a confident, accurate and fluent writer, used to editing other’s written work with a good ‘eye’ for layout and graphic design in order to maintain and develop our credibility and authority in the field.  

  • Designing and editing materials to ensure they are in compliance with AfN Brand Guidelines  
  • Support the preparation of newsletters, reports and feedback  
  • Maintain and extend the use of AfN website and social media to communicate messages/ information to registrants, the public and key stakeholders 
  • Updating the AfN website with new/revised material  
  • Create and schedule social media collateral in relation to AfN and its work 
  • Supporting the drafting and reviewing of communication resources  
  • Support the Regional Representatives and their delivery of activities 
  • Make all arrangements for our participation, and help, at events such as New Scientist Live, Good Food Show and Nutrition Society Conferences 
  • Assist in the organisation of the AGM, Council, annual discourse and occasional training events which support operational activity 
  • Create online surveys, collate responses and produce reports as appropriate 
  • Support the development and issuing of press releases, position statements and consultation responses  
  • Maintain and manage the Registrant Media Panel and arrange responses to press requests 
  • Compile, write and edit ad-hoc content for journals /print media  
  • Support engagement and advocacy with stakeholders in relation to AfN and its work  
  • Working closely with colleagues within the AfN, to ensure communication activities and materials support the different strands of our work  

 

Other responsibilities   

You will support the administration of the AfN Office and our activities with efficiency, professionalism and accuracy.   

  • Acting as an initial point of contact by dealing with telephone calls, email/social media enquiries.  
  • Providing administrative and project support as required 
  • Providing registrant support through activities such as webinars and zoom sessions 
  • Supporting the general operation of the AfN Team   
  • Other tasks as determined by the AfN to meet the operational demands of the organisation
