Accreditation Committee Member (3 Volunteer positions)
We are currently seeking to recruit three members to our Accreditation Committee.
This is an opportunity for three Registered Nutritionists to increase their knowledge about the delivery of nutrition degrees across the UK and beyond, and to contribute the development of AfN’s policies and wider accreditation activity.
The Committee
The Accreditation Committee governs the AfN Degree Accreditation Scheme on behalf of the AfN Council.
The Committee usually meets four times a year (online) to consider all matters relating to degree programme accreditation, including applications for accreditation and reaccreditation.
Members of the committee include RNutrs with expertise across the specialist areas of practice, research and professional, education, the practice of nutrition and experience of employing nutritionists, plus Lay Members who have expertise in the field of education.
The Chair of the Committee has a seat on AfN Council.

Time Commitment
Committee Members are typically appointed for a three year term of office, with these vacancies haven arisen due to changes in member’s circumstances or having reached the maximum number of years they can sit on the Committee.
The committee have 4 (online) meetings a year, which are usually 3-4hrs in duration. Time will also be needed to prepare for each meeting by reading the committee papers and application documents in advance.
Role Expectations
The Accreditation Committee act on behalf of the Association in order to assure AfN standards and competencies are being maintained across degree programmes nationally and internationally. This is done by:
- Approving applications for accreditation from degree programmes where a successful assessment has been undertaken and accreditation recommended by the assessors.
- Reviewing accreditation standards to ensure graduates conferred the qualification of an accredited degree can be recognised as suitable to justify application to the United Kingdom Voluntary Register of Nutritionists.
- Supporting the annual review of existing accredited programmes through the Association’s Annual Monitoring Review process.
- Approve key aspects of accreditation policies and procedures where required.
- Working with AfN staff on issues relating to degree accreditation.
- Assisting where appropriate, on working groups within Accreditation Committee and the wider AfN Governance structure
There is also an expectation for all RNutr members of the Accreditation Committee to train as AfN Degree Accreditation Assessors.
Assessment Criteria
Applications will be considered in line with the following criteria:
- Current registration as an RNutr
- Existing Degree Accreditation Assessor, or willingness to train as one
- Recent or current experience of academic delivery
- Experience of Curriculum and/or Programme Design
- Experience of Academic Quality Assurance in a University setting
