The UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN)

AfN governs the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists (UKVRN) to distinguish nutrition practitioners who meet rigorously applied training, competence and professional practice criteria. Its purpose is to protect the public and assure the credibility of nutrition as a responsible profession.

There are two categories of UKVRN registrant:

Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr) typically graduated from a BSc (Hons) or MSc in nutrition science within the last three years. A Registered Associate Nutritionist can prove underpinning scientific knowledge in evidence-based nutrition, but has yet to acquire the significant experience of the practical application of this knowledge required to transfer to RNutr status.

Registered Nutritionist (RNutr) qualified nutrition professionals with demonstrable experience of degree-level, evidence-based practice in a specialist area of nutrition competency; animal nutrition, food, nutrition science, public health and/or sport & exercise.

All UKVRN Registrants have a minimum of degree-level nutrition science and have committed to adhere to the AfN Standards of Ethics, Conduct and Performance.

In addition to UKVRN registration, the Association for Nutrition also accepts applications for:

Fellow of the Association for Nutrition (FAfN)

A Fellow of the Association for Nutrition (FAfN) has been a Registered Nutritionist (RNutr) for at least five continuous years and has made a significant and sustained contribution to the advancement of nutrition regulation, practice, research or education at national/international level.
